Hi! To preface anything I say here, I am not a machinist, so let me know if I'm missing information or if I'm trying to produce something incorrectly. I am working on a design project as part of my work at Clemson University. We are moving towards production of a prototype and the time has come to make some cost-based design decisions.

I am comparing two alternative designs in completing a task. I would like to have a quote on the machining costs of the two alternatives so that I can make a price-based decision. I will be referring to the alternatives as Option 1 and Option 2.

Option 1 is a five-piece assembly, wherein three rods bridge a gap between two end collars. The rods are meant to be press-fit into the end collars. I only need machining costs for the individual components, but if a part of the quote could include the assembly costs, that would be great.

Option 2 is a single-piece tube. I only need the machining costs of this option.

To address some of "before you post" items:
- Material: UNS C47940 naval brass for all components. If this is too uncommon, I am willing to discuss alternatives.
- Material Quote: Ideally, I would like a material quote included. However, I will also accept offers without material quotes.
- Quantities: For this comparison, I only want to compare each design on a one-to-one basis. So I will need (1) tube for Option 2, (3) rods for Option 1, and (2) collars for Option 1. If possible, I also welcome any comments (e.g. Option 1 or 2 would be cheaper) with respect to higher-volume production. For prototyping, I will be expecting to produce three of the winning option. Please note that price is not the only consideration in deciding between the two options, so please leave any decision-making to me.
- Drawings: The drawings will be emailed in .pdf form upon request.
- Timeframe: I would like quotes ASAP. I am looking to move forward with prototyping within the next two weeks, and therefore I must make a decision very soon.
- Ending Time: Any quotes provided after December 3, 2013 will not be considered.
- Tolerances/Finishing: No special tolerances or finishing are required, the default surface finish from even rough lathe turning should be sufficient.

Thanks for considering the work, Larry1. I have sent an email with the drawings attached. Let me know if there's anything else you need to know.

I am unfortunately running low on time, and so I must close this thread and refuse any further requests.

I will consider any quotes that have been submitted so far.
