Hi everyone!

This is my first post. Exciting. I am looking for a quote on 500 small round aluminum pieces. All i have is a sort of crummy drawing from the client and i am waiting on clarifications on tolerances, finish. So for now, lets say

Mill Finish, Tolerances are normal... .005ish, with the strictest dimensions being the hole distances from center, as would be expected. Because i am waiting on the concrete due date, lets say i would like a quote on '10 days' and a quote on '1 month' from quote acceptance. lets say i supply material, but if you can do it easily i would appreciate quotes on both methods.

The file is in the form of a .jpg attachment. feel free to email, respond here, or give a call if you would like to ask for more information or provide a quote. i hope to have more information by tomorrow, but the quicker an answer the better.

Thank you very much for your time,

Robert

A note to everyone. I have even bigger questions now than before - I have been reminded of the slot and inside radii.

I will make another post tomorrow with more information.

Thanks so far everyone!

Hello!

Well, Ive got more information. Here it is:

  • We were most interested in getting these cut by laser, to facilitate the slot geometry, which needs to be as 'sharp' as possible.
  • Finish can be mill finish
  • the part to quote is the dimensioned part
  • turnaround will be 3 weeks
  • i will need a sample, but i can pay shipping and material costs. i am sorry i cannot work any other way on this. in the future i will have strong preference for those who's work ive seen. a really nice website and\or some references may lessen this requirement. hopefully something can be worked out
  • Tolerances:'standard cnc tolerances of .005ish'
  • Finish: Mill
  • Slot Info: May i recommend placing the part 'flat side' in the vice and cleaning out the corners in an extra operation. I may use another option to clean out corners if you can do it very cheaply with a 1/16" or 1/8" radius.
Again, Thank you very much for your responses. I quote lots of work also, so I know how much effort it takes and I am grateful.

Beter Drawing

I redrew the part in my cad.

Quotes look good. Thanks. I will be making a formal proposal and hope to choose someone fairly quickly. Please let me know if a sample can be created and sent, and the lead on that. I dont know if the sample requirement is normal, but it will make me feel much more comfortable.

If a sample is a major sticking point but you can still provide a great quote, I will consider creating a one off here and presenting that as a sample - but I am not at all keen on this. If i had the capability here to do production work, I would probably bite the bullet and make a sample.. The paths for this part would be pie.

Thanks for the responses.

First off: thanks for the quotes everyone! so far i have had a very good experience with RFQwork.com - the bulletin board interface is different than the other RFQ sites, but, hey, it is free and allows a unique interaction for those involved.

Second: I am afraid i am waiting for further comments from my client. You have probably gathered that I am acting as a 'middle man' on this one, though I like to think my 'design interventions' and communication are worth something.

I will provide more information as soon as ive got it. Hopefully this will be soon.i am very interested in awarding this job to someone from this forum, and am working towards that goal.

If anyone is interested in graphic or web design services, I am very interested in helping you guys out in terms of web sites and other business materials. Maybe you would like to act as middle man with me providing quotes? Quotes and conversation are free. Please see my website at www.robertguyser.com and contact me if you have any interest. And, please believe me, Ihope this is not taken to be the focus of my post.

Please be patient, and thanks again.

How many pcs do you need. We can EDM the slots in house so it would still be sharp, but cheaper than laser cut.

would there be any consideration to making these out of durable plastic. is there alot of pressure or abuse on this product.

There is durable plastics, but there not cheap. Also if you want plastic i wouldn't be able to EDM the slots or they will melt.

I will do them for 3$/each.

I have a Haas Mill and have a lot of experience with aluminum. Guaranteed tolerances and cosmetic appearance will be excellent. Let me know?
